Jerry Gray Smith, age 74, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was born in Kinston, NC on April 15, 1950 to Ira Grey Smith and Mary Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James C. Smith.

He is survived by his devoted wife of twenty-five years, Darlene Smith; children, Amy Smith of Charlotte, Nathan Parker (Joshua David Gillan) of Sharpsburg and Brian Parker of Virginia; sister, Shelby Jean Rhem of Georgia and grandchildren, Michael Gillan and Damien Parker. He will also be missed by special friends, Buddy and Lorraine Thorne, David and Margaret Narron, Virginia and Tommy Page, Melvin and other extended relatives.

Jerry was a proud veteran, having served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Before being drafted into the military, he had a fondness for working on automobiles. After his service, he honed in on his mechanical work and perfected his craft at Capital Ford Rocky Mount and Rocky Mount Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram until his retirement.

He also loved to camp, especially at the Oregon Inlet in Nagshead, North Carolina. His beach excursions always included boating and lots of fishing. Jerry found peace by the water and more importantly, with his family. A loving husband, father, brother, dear friend, and skilled mechanic, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.   

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 7:00pm at Davis-Little Funerals, 2129 Lawrence Circle, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 6:00pm.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the team of caregivers at CenterWell Home Health and also to Ms. Allison, his oxygen technician, for their kindness and compassion to Jerry.
